The Crisis

Somehow, despite their professions of faith, of love of neighbor and care for creation, large numbers of religious congregations have no public life outside their four walls.

The vast majority of religious institutions that do have a public life are engaged in acts of charity, of meeting needs. Such practices and actions may provide temporary relief for those who suffer, but they do not get at the root causes of poverty or inequality; they fail to do the justice demanded and sought by God.

“Hate evil and love good, and establish justice in the gate.” -Amos 5:15a
